Other Creative Work

Writing
In more recent years, I have begun writing. I wrote a short play called 'How to commit a mattress heist' which won TipTray Theatres 'What Happens Next' competition.
I have now written a full length version of the play which is being co-produced by TipTray Theatre and Puddle of Fools for a Northern tour in March 2026.

'How to commit a mattress heist' is a semi-autobiographical tragi-comedy that focuses on the themes of consent and sexual assault.
"She's emerging from a breakup, ready to reclaim her life—and her mattress. We are the accomplices in this mattress heist, being guided through the mission as we revisit her past relationship, uncovering tragic truths through comedy (and theft)."

I am currently beginning to develop other projects that are focused around issues I've felt have directly affected my life so I can help to inform and reassure others who have had similar experiences.

Producing
In 2025, I was given a bursary place on The Optimists Producers Course by China Plate. This course gave me all the guidance and direction to be able to create my own theatre company.
I am a Co-Founder of Northern theatre company Puddle of Fools alongside Hannah Harquart.
Our goal is to create and produce funny, sad, important work that can be accessed by all. Our first project was an R&D for show 'MUMSPLAINING' by Hannah Harquart. This show explored the topic of grief through the lens of ADHD and autism.

Our second project is 'How to commit a mattress heist' written by myself, as we co-produce this with TipTray Theatre.

DYCP
I have recently received DYCP (Develop Your Creative Practice) funding which I am really looking forward to getting started on.
I am using the money to develop my skillset when it comes to working accessibly. My goal is to be able to confidently and comfortably know I can accommodate other peoples access needs so that anyone is able to work comfortably both with myself as an individual, and my company Puddle of Fools. Although I don't expect to be an expert on access by the end of the project, I hope it will be an important start in understanding how different people work and what they need to be able to do so without limitations.

Within this I will also look specifically at lighting design from an access perspective. How should the design be adapted based on the audiences access needs? And what improvements can I make generally to my designs to allow a wider audience to be able to interact with them?

Finally, I will also explore lighting installations. This is an area I have always been interested in, having designed some installations whilst studying at university but feeling unsure of how to progress into this field. I'm hoping the DYCP will allow me to gain an understanding of how to become involved in this field but also give me the opportunity to combine all the skills I have learnt to develop an accessible installation idea.
