Maya Shimmin,
Co-Artistic Director of
Close to Home Productions
I have worked with Jess for a few years across different productions. We first crossed paths when she had recently graduated and her passion and talent shone brightly even then. She has gone on to create exceptional, multi-dimensional lighting designs, working collaboratively with myself and set designers with sensitivity, flair and creativity. Her lighting elevates worlds on stage, helping to enhance playfulness in bold moments and detail in the softest of moments. Jess is an exceptional lighting designer, and has worked tirelessly to carve a career for herself.
Douglas Kuhrt,
Lighting Designer
Jess is an ambitious, confident, intelligent, motivated individual and l have no worries about recommending her. I have worked with her on a number of occasions. Jess has great communication skills, is well organised and has an instantly likeable nature. Creatively she has what I call “an Eye for it”. She notices when things aren’t right, whether that is colour, intensity level, cue timing or a light isn’t focused evenly.
Jack Chamberlain,
Director
Jess’ recent work as lighting designer for our tour of new play ‘Grimm’, visiting four different non-theatrical spaces, was exemplary and I was impressed by Jess’ designs and responsiveness to the vastly different and unique spaces that she had to light. Jess has a flair for working in non-traditional spaces.
Lauren Rae Bell,
Co-Artistic Director of
Close to Home Productions
Jessica has worked with Close To Home Productions since September 2022, as a Lighting Designer and as a Technical Stage Manager but she was so much more in every way. Her expertise and vision have inspired countless innovative ideas in our work. Identities, our debut play, has had numerous 5* reviews that include the “stunning” design by Jessica. She is a joy to have as a member of our team and has a clear passion for her work as a designer. I’m just grateful that we worked with her before her career takes her to the big time! She is a true gem, as a designer and as a person.
